Munching on a piece of chocolate-flavoured halvah one day I pondered "This is made of a sesame seed paste - but where exactly do the sesame seeds come from?". I didn't know just then, but I was sure they did not come out of a box of Cream of Wheatâ„¢ .

Max Miedinger was a former employee of the Haas Foundry, when in 1956 Edouard Hoffmann of Haas asked him to modernise the style of one of the sans-serif faces owned by the firm.The result was to become the best known and most widely used typeface in recorded history.

In 1974, Max's nephew, Pierre Miedinger designed a new font for the Brauerei Huerlimann brewery, which was later purchased by Carlsberg and the brand discontinued.
