Max Miedinger was a former employee of the Haas Foundry, when in 1956 Edouard Hoffmann of Haas asked him to modernise the style of one of the sans-serif faces owned by the firm. The result was to become the best known and most widely used typeface in recorded history.
In 1974, Max's nephew, Pierre Miedinger designed a new font for the Brauerei Huerlimann brewery, which was later purchased by Carlsberg and the brand discontinued.
